Can Veneers Close the Gap in My Smile?
If you feel self-conscious about a less-than-perfect smile due to a gap or gaps between your teeth, there’s hope! Learn about who’s prone to gaps, what risks they pose, and an ideal solution that restores your dazzling smile. Read more here.

Do you find yourself shying away from the camera or covering your mouth with your hand when you laugh because of a gap (or two) in your smile?

If so, it’s important to understand that gaps between teeth aren’t just a cosmetic concern — they also can negatively impact your oral health.

Dr. Jarred Donald has helped countless patients who have struggled with tooth gaps over the years, and the solution he recommends is porcelain veneers, wafer-thin coverings that go over the front of your teeth. The process is simple, comfortable, and restores your smile to dazzling. The Cisco Dental team is second to none, and Dr. Donald has expertise in performing this procedure, as well as an array of services that address diverse dental issues.

The perils of tooth gaps

As we noted before, gaps between your teeth can certainly make you feel self-conscious, but they also pose problems for your overall oral health. Unfortunately, gaps can lead to:

  • Food becoming stuck between your teeth more frequently
  • Plaque buildup
  • Tooth decay
  • Gum disease

Gum disease is especially concerning because, if it becomes advanced, you experience bleeding, gum recession, bad breath, and even loosening teeth.

You may develop gaps because they run in your family, or you might have extra room in your jaw that leads to a gap. An oral muscular imbalance or an abnormally shaped dental arch (the curve inside your mouth that your teeth follow) are additional causes of gaps. If your frenum (the tissue in the middle of your upper lip) is unusually large or thick, that can contribute to gaps.

Certain habits that develop in babyhood, such as thumb sucking and being dependent upon a pacifier, can lead to gaps as well.

Porcelain veneers: An ideal solution to tooth gaps

Porcelain veneers offer a lot of advantages as an effective solution for camouflaging gaps. The procedure requires just a couple of trips to our office, but you get so much bang for your buck! Veneers are:

  • Safe and proven
  • Highly customizable to every shade of teeth
  • A permanent solution to a range of cosmetic problems, making them budget-friendly
  • Natural-looking
  • Protective

Since veneers fit like gloves over the visible parts of your teeth, they conceal chips and cracks, discoloration, and other cosmetic concerns in addition to gaps. We keep you comfortable throughout the entire process.

What should I expect if I come to Cisco Dental for veneers?

When you visit our office for veneers, expect to receive the best care from Dr. Donald and his team. You’ll come to the office twice, as the procedure requires several steps.

At your first visit, Dr. Donald removes a bit of your exterior tooth tissue, since he needs to create room for your veneers. At the beginning of this step, he applies a numbing medication that eliminates your ability to feel what’s going on. Instead, you can just take it easy during your visit.

Then he makes impressions of your teeth so your veneers can be made to match them precisely. After this appointment is finished, Dr. Donald fits you with temporary veneers so your teeth can be protected as you wait for your custom-made veneers.

You return to our office once your new veneers are delivered. Dr. Donald assesses them to ensure that they fit well and look natural, and that they’re nice and smooth and feel comfortable.

Next, Dr. Donald places the veneers on your teeth with complete focus, since they must bond to your teeth very well. We have no doubt you will be delighted with the results. Veneers are a cost-effective, noninvasive way to get that perfect smile you’ve always longed for!
